Gehring Pulls Out of Mayor's Race, Will Back Lent
By Steven Gardner

PORT ORCHARD Bremerton City Councilman Brad Gehring has decided to run for re-election rather than for mayor of the city.

Gehring had said when he announced his candidacy that if he found someone better suited for the mayor's job, he would step aside. "And that's what I did," he said Friday.
The District One councilman said he believes he has strengths that would serve the city if he were mayor, and he will continue to use those should he get re-elected. But, "I have a couple of weak spots, and I recognize them," he said, pointing specifically to his lack of experience dealing with county, state and other governments.
For that and other reasons he decided to back former Kitsap County commissioner Patty Lent for the mayor's post, saying he would also have no problem supporting fellow City Councilman Will Maupin should Lent not make it through the primary.

City Councilman Mike Shepherd, nonprofit director Daryl Daugs and downtown business owner Carlos Jara are also running for the Bremerton mayor's spot.

Gehring will be opposed in his run for re-election by Jim McDonald.

The Port of Bremerton race to replace Cheryl Kincer has been joined by former Bremerton Mayor Lynn Horton, who will run against Gene Hart and Roger Zabinski.

On Bainbridge Island, Dee DuMont will run against former City Councilwoman Debbie Vann for the city's District Five seat.

Carolynn Perkins filed in the Bremerton School District Position Five race, running against Ken Watkins. In the Central Kitsap district, Bill Bailey will run against Herb Messinger for the District Two spot, and in District Five Jim Zimny filed to run against Eric Greene and Richard Romero.

In the South Kitsap School District Gail Porter filed to run against Christopher Lemke and Naomi Polen for the District Three position.

Jay Kinney and Bob Selzler filed to run for the Bainbridge Island Parks and Recreation Commission in Position Four.

Well, He's right in backing Patty Lent. She has everything that is needed to be Mayor of Bremerton.

Great, I think Patty Lent may be able to help Bremerton.
